Selecting A Material for Your Labels
Essential oils and aromatherapy products are gaining in popularity - both in the DIY environment and retail ones. In an effort to protect consumers, the FDA has put certain rules in place. While these rules are much more binding in the retail sphere than for DIYers, they pertain to claims made about your product and its proposed benefits. Here are things to consider when creating your essential oil printable labels:
- Understand which category your product falls under. The four main categories outlined by the FDA are cosmetics, soaps, aromatherapy, and drugs. Each class has a different set of regulations you must adhere to.
- Most product labels must include the following information at a minimum: product name, ingredients, name of the source plant, expiration date, storage rules, and instructions for use.
- Use clear, high-quality graphics. Because of the small nature of essential oil bottles, imagery is important for consumers to identify the scent and benefits quickly and easily.
- Opt for an oil-resistant label. You want your label to withstand any contact it may have with its contents.
- Don't forget the lid! Adding an identifier to the cap of your essential oil container.
